Classes
Spinning Babies® Parent Class
A private class for one couple, taught by Dr. Anne Lundquist at Lundquist & Patterson Chiropractic, 516 E. Chapman Ave., Orange. One class, one hour. A private online session is also available.
What is the Spinning Babies® Parent Class?
Spinning Babies® is a paradigm shift in childbirth education: an approach to birth that focuses on where the baby is in the mother’s pelvis. Typically, during labor, the focus is on the dilation of the mother’s cervix. The Spinning Babies® approach focuses more on the baby and mother working together through the birthing process.
Spinning Babies® is not about forcing, moving or turning your baby manually. It is about the natural rotation your baby needs to make during birth, and how the mother can help with this process. The class is specifically for parents: to help you recognize and connect with your baby, know what position your baby is in and the way a baby needs to travel through the pelvis, and how you can help your baby come through more comfortably.
But my baby is already head down?
Great! Much of the work is done. Breech babies aren’t the only ones who need help getting into the best position for birth. Learn why the baby’s position and the mother’s activities matter, the factors that influence the baby’s position, and what you can do to help your baby be in the ideal position to start birth.
What you’ll learn
- Basic anatomy of the pelvis and how it can affect your birth
- The Daily Essentials exercises
- How to Rest Smart and Move Smart for fetal positioning
- How to balance your body for birth using the Three Sisters of Balance
- The landmarks of the pelvis
- How to use Spinning Babies® activities in pregnancy and labor
Included
After you register, Dr. Lundquist sends you the online Parent Class video to watch before your session. The video is included in the price of the class, along with the exclusive class e-book, the Spinning Babies® Daily Essentials digital download and a beautiful hand-woven Guatemalan rebozo.
When should I take it?
Any time! It is best taken after about 20 weeks, but could be taken as early as 16 weeks: you should have a little bit of a baby bump to benefit from the exercises and techniques. Give yourself time to practice the techniques daily before your baby is born, so preferably come before 38 weeks. The perfect time to start is between 20 and 34 weeks, but if you are outside that window, please come anyway.
I already took a childbirth class
This is not your typical childbirth class, and it is an addition to any childbirth method you have learned. It is not a comprehensive childbirth preparation class: having basic knowledge of birth is helpful, so if possible, take it after a childbirth class (such as our Birth Naturally series).
How will I remember it all?
After the class you receive an e-book with everything we talk about, plus handouts to keep with you during labor. No need to take notes: just come, absorb, and refer to your e-book later.
The Spinning Babies® videos
Two Spinning Babies® videos are included in this class and in the Birth Naturally series: the Parent Class video, in which midwife Gail Tully shows balancing activities for pregnancy and labor, and Daily Essentials, a gentle stretch routine with tips on resting and moving through your day, from Gail Tully and prenatal yoga instructor Sarah Longacre.
These techniques are challenging to learn correctly from a video alone; watching the video and then having a private session helps you and your partner become a great team. You can also buy the Parent Class video on its own from Spinning Babies (an affiliate link).
